CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Collect Top 10 Finish at Watkins Glen International
Watkins Glen, New York (June 28, 2026) - The CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team returned to Watkins Glen International for their fourth round of the season featuring their two duos of IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) competitors. This event comes fresh off the heels of the team’s second endurance event of the season at Mid-Ohio, where the No. 39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team managed to secure the team’s first podium of the season.
The IMPC stable of drivers in the No. 37 and No. 39 BMW M4 GT4 EVOs came prepared to tackle the 3.4-mile circuit in Upstate New York for the LP Building Solutions 120 at The Glen immediately following a productive testing session at the course the week prior. The team took to a rainy practice session on Thursday afternoon, and had one more opportunity to practice on Friday in dry conditions ahead of their qualifying session later that afternoon.
Stephen Wetterau and the No. 37 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team took on Saturday’s 120-minute race from 17th on the grid, and was poised to make his way forward as the flag went green. Wetterau immediately got to work, moving up four positions to take 13th in the pack of GS competitors. As Wetterau continued to get settled behind the wheel and make moves up the field, an on-track incident resulted in a drive-through penalty just over 30-minutes into the race. Just shy of an hour into the race, Wetterau brought the car in to hand the reins over to Cameron Shields for the remainder of the race. With no intention of giving up, Shields immediately got to work, making moves on track to make his way up the field. Shields made multiple passes to eventually find himself in 10th with just shy of 20-minute to go. As the final laps of the race came to a head, Shields made one final pass to ninth-place just before a full course yellow in the closing minutes. The field ultimately saw the checkered flag under caution, lending to a ninth-place finish for the No. 37 team.
Sean McAlister handled qualifying duties for the No. 39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team, securing a fourth-position start. From the drop of the green flag, McAlister was on the move, making his way to third position as the field took the first lap. McAlister showed excellent racecraft in the BMW machinery, holding onto third for the majority of his stint. As McAlister took his final laps, he skillfully made his way to the very front of the field, before coming into pit lane to hand over driving duties to Jeff Westphal. A speedy pit stop and driver change saw Westphal take to the field in first position with just over an hour to go of racing. Ready to keep the momentum going, Westphal put his head down, determined to stay at the front of the pack. Dominantly holding onto the lead, Westphal brought the BMW into the pits with just shy of 50-minutes to go for a tank of fuel and new left tires, eventually making his way back to the lead through the pit sequence with 40-minutes left of on-track action. As Westphal got comfortable in the lead position, an unfortunate incident saw a piece of the track curbing become loose, leaving a bolt exposed on track. This resulted in a tear to the No. 39’s left rear tire, forcing Westphal to pit lane for an emergency pit stop. Despite the strong effort from the team, this incident took the No. 39 out of contention for a win or podium. Westphal ultimately saw the checkered flag from 18th in what was poised to be a promising day.
The IMPC BMW duo for CarBahn with Peregrine Racing will have one weekend off before returning to racing action at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park alongside Courtney Crone in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge on July 10-12, 2026.
What They're Saying: CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Quotes
Jeff Westphal, co-driver, No. 39 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “Tough day for the 39. The team did a fantastic job in pit lane; we were super speedy. Sean did a great job in the opening stint - his in lap was quick, my out lap was quick, and we ended up gaining time on the stop. We were kind of controlling the race and managing rear tires up until we had a curb start to fail on the race track and a bolt or plate that was exposed punctured our left rear, taking out a few other cars later in the race as well. So, the win that was is now 18th.”
Stephen Wetterau, co-driver, No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “Tough qualifying, but we ended up starting 17th in class. We had great pace, so off the get go the team gave us a great car. The TPC BMW was just on point, and we were able to work our way through the field. We got into a little situation at the Bus Stop, but we recovered from that after a drive through. I turned the car over to Cam, and with the track going the way it was, we were able to keep the car and the tires underneath us, and next thing you know we’re in 9th. Onto Canada!”
Cameron Shields, co-driver, No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “We had a really fun race today, Steve did a great job in the beginning moving from 17th up to 13th. Unfortunately, we got a penalty which moved us back, but towards the end of the race we made up a lot of ground again. We stayed out of the mayhem and didn’t get any damage from the curbing on the track, so a top 10 today, and really looking forward to CTMP.”
