CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Contends at VIRginia International Raceway
Alton, Virginia (August 23, 2026) - The CarBahn with Peregrine Racing teams headed to VIRginia International Raceway for the Virginia is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix. The weekend saw the team contest in both the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge.
The IMPC drivers of the No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, Stephen Wetterau and Cameron Shields, came prepared to tackle the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course for their eighth round of competition.
Unfortunately, the No. 39 team of Sean McAlister and Jeff Westphal were unable to compete this round of competition due to damage sustained at Road America and short turnaround time for repairs.
Wetterau handled qualifying duties for the No. 37 team on Saturday morning, seeing them starting from 23rd on the GS grid for the race that afternoon. An impressive start saw Wetterau gaining three positions on the opening lap, and he was determined to continue this effort as he got settled into his stint. He continued making moves forward before a short yellow 20-minutes in paused further momentum. Wetterau ultimately found one more opportunity for a pass to 17th before bringing the black and green BMW machinery into pit lane to hand driving duties over to Cameron Shields with an hour and fifteen minutes to go.
Shields took to his stint on a fresh set of tires and a full tank of fuel, ready to build on Wetterau’s progress forward. Shields fought through the pack of GS cars lap after lap, finding himself in fifth before heading back to pit lane. With just over 40-minutes to go, fresh left side tires, and a half tank of fuel, Shields put his head down and focused forward.
Shields made it as high as 15th in his second stint, but with other teams at the front on a one-stop, fuel saving strategy, there was no way to shuffle forward in the running order. The field saw two full course yellows in the final 12 minutes of racing leaving no time to advance trackposition. Shields ultimately saw the checkered flag from 16th under caution, with post-race penalties seeing the team finish in 15th.
Courtney Crone returned behind the wheel of the No. 35 BMW M4 GT4 machinery for her fifth round of VP Racing Challenge competition, with her qualifying efforts seeing her starting from third for the first race of the doubleheader weekend. As she saw the green flag for the first 45-minute race, Crone managed the field behind her with a clean start that saw her maintaining track position in the opening laps. Crone fought hard to maintain position as she battled with the competitor behind her, but found herself in third where she ultimately remained as she crossed the finish line. For Race 2, Crone started from second in the pack of GSX’s, and a clean race with no yellows saw her maintaining position to see the checkered flag from second. Crone’s weekend at VIR saw her securing her fourth and fifth podiums of the season as she continues her hunt in the VP SportsCar Racing Championship.
The No. 37 and No. 39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing teams will take on their penultimate event of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they will challenge in another two-hour race on September 18-19, 2026. Courtney Crone will join the team for the final event of the season at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on September 30 - October 2, 2026.
What They're Saying: CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Quotes
Stephen Wetterau, co-driver, No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “Well, they say Virginia's for lovers, and I wish we got a little bit more love here, but we finished 15th. Interesting conditions on the track, but we made the most of it. Made up a lot of positions, and Cam did an excellent job. The middle of the third stint was really slick, and my stint was really slick, but we got through it. Good result given where we ended up starting. So, on to Indy. We're going to regroup as a team and look at a couple different things. But we've got a strong team, we've had a lot of good pace, and I think we're going to make the most of it in Indianapolis."
Cameron Shields, co-driver, No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “Overall, it's a very positive weekend for us. We've made it through unscathed again, so certainly something to look forward to. Unfortunately, we struggled a little bit with our car pace this weekend. It's not quite where we'd like it. We got cut short with our practice with the rain early on in the weekend, but really looking forward to getting to Indianapolis and then Atlanta to close out the season.”
Courtney Crone, driver, No. 35 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “It was a pretty good weekend with two podium finishes. We turned the fastest lap of the weekend for the team in Race 2 and made a lot of good improvements. I’m looking forward to coming back next year and building on this at Road Atlanta in October.”
