Peregrine with CarBahn Racing Looking Forward After Difficult Second Round at Sebring International Raceway
Sebring, FL. (March 23, 2026) - CarBahn with Peregrine Racing returned to Sebring International Speedway for the second round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, ready to deliver after a successful week of testing at Sebring earlier this month. With two practice sessions ahead of qualifying, the Peregrine Racing two-car lineup was ready to challenge in the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 race, but unfortunate circumstances inhibited a push to the front of the grid. Stephen Wetterau, co-driver of the No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, salvaged a 20th-place starting position while battling mechanical challenges, and Sean McAlister, co-driver of the No. 39 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, experienced contact in the opening minutes of qualifying placed him 33rd on the grid.
Despite these challenges during qualifying, the CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team was in good spirits in the moments leading up to the race with the high temperatures favoring the mechanical dynamics of the black and green machinery. As the flag flew green, both cars were ready to battle their way to the front, but the field had other plans for the Peregrine Racing drivers. As the No. 37 and No. 39 drivers approached the green flag, contact was made with the No. 37, piloted by Wetterau, resulting in a nine-car pileup with the No. 37 sustaining race ending damage while the No. 39 driven by McAlister was caught up in the chaos as well. While it was at first unclear whether the damage to the No. 39 was terminal for the team, the decision was eventually made for the car to be retired.
Despite this unfortunate set of circumstances, the team is looking forward to their next on track appearance at the iconic Northern California event at Laguna Seca Raceway. On track action for IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge begins Friday, May 1, 2026, with race day commencing on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Broadcast for the third race of the year will be hosted on Peacock.
What They're Saying: CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Quotes
Stephen Wetterau, co-driver, No. 37 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: Tough weekend—and a result that doesn’t reflect the full story. We had real pace, podium pace, and a car that felt strong from the first session through race prep. A software issue in qualifying put us back to P20, but the team stayed focused, made the right adjustments, and gave me a car that was ready to charge forward. We were set to make moves from the start. Unfortunately, a stack-up off the line triggered a chain reaction ahead, and we were caught in it with nowhere to go—essentially a passenger and an unwilling participant in the chaos. The contact sent us into the wall before the race even began—out before Turn 1. That’s racing. Sometimes you don’t even get the opportunity to show what you’ve built. But the takeaway is clear—the speed is real, the team is strong, and the foundation is there. We reset, we regroup, and our eyes are firmly focused on the next round at Laguna Seca.
Jeff Westphal, co-driver, No. 39 BMW M4 GT4 EVO: “Sebring was looking to be a promising weekend for both the 37 and 39 BMW's, with long run (race) pace being the strength of our team and platforms. Having said that, the weekend left much to desire due to both cars being damaged in a race start incident that collected 7-8 cars. We are mostly grateful for BMW building such strong vehicles, and that Stephen Wetterau is safe and healthy."
